Freestore Foodbank announces the winners of 2019's Rubber Duck Regatta (WKRC)

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The Freestore Foodbank announced the winners of the 25th annual Rubber Duck Regatta on Sunday.

The event involves thousands of rubber ducks being released into the Ohio River to race along the Serpentine Wall. The ducks are sold to raise funds for children in need of food.

This year's drop took place a half-hour ahead of schedule due to concerns about high winds and lightning.

The owner of the first place duck, Carla Farrell of Franklin, Ohio, won a 2019 Honda CRV, courtesy of Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky Honda Dealers.

The other following prizes were awarded to the owners of the runner up ducks:

$5,200 in groceries from Kroger ($100 per week for a year): Paulette Helm of Hamilton, OH

$500 cash from KEMBA Credit Union: Marlene Beeler of Blue Ash, OH

$500 cash from KEMBA Credit Union: Mary Anderson of Cincinnati, OH

$500 cash from KEMBA Credit Union: Lydia Groomes of Walton, KY

$500 cash from KEMBA Credit Union: Ann Korte of Cincinnati, OH

$500 cash from KEMBA Credit Union: Daniel Sauer of Cleves, OH'

The regatta helped kick-off Hunger Action Month, which encourages communities to take action each September to fight hunger all over the country.
